On August 24, 2026, a solemn event on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence will take place in the German city of Schwerin. The initiative was put forward by the non-governmental organization Nord Haus UA e.V. in cooperation with Caritasverband für das Erzbistum Hamburg e. V.
The event will start at 16:00 on the central square, Marktplatz, bringing together representatives of the Ukrainian community, German political circles, authorities, civil society organizations, and all supportive friends of Ukraine.
This year, Ukraine’s Independence Day holds special symbolism. For over four years, Ukrainians have been continuing the struggle for their statehood, freedom, territorial integrity, and the right to determine their own future independently.
The purpose of the event is to express solidarity with Ukraine, honor the memory of those who gave their lives for its independence, and emphasize the shared European values that unite Ukraine and the countries of the European Union. Among these are democracy, the rule of law, respect for human dignity, freedom, peace, and the defense of state sovereignty.
The organizers are convinced that today it is particularly important to strengthen international unity, support the Ukrainian people, and work together for a peaceful, democratic, and secure future for Europe.
Representatives of diplomatic missions, state authorities, political parties, public organizations, the Ukrainian diaspora, and everyone who supports Ukraine are invited to join. The event will serve as another testament to the unwavering international solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people.
