The index of business activity in Ukraine decreased to 48.3 points in August

In August 2026, Ukrainian business slightly worsened the assessment of its own economic activity. The index of expectations of business activity (IODA), which is calculated monthly by the National Bank of Ukraine, fell to 48.3 points against 50.1 in July, which indicates the predominance of restrained moods among entrepreneurs.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, the destruction of production facilities and logistics infrastructure, the blocking of seaports, high fuel prices and the shortage of qualified workers continue to have a negative impact on business activity. At the same time, the economy is supported by stable consumer demand, international financial assistance, state funding for infrastructure reconstruction, and a stable situation in the energy sector.

The only industry that kept positive expectations was construction. This is due to the active budget financing of the restoration of roads and infrastructure, as well as the seasonal revival of the work.

Instead, industrial and commercial enterprises have deteriored their performance estimates due to loss of production and warehouse capacity, logistics problems, and rising costs. In the service sector, moods remain close to neutral due to stable domestic demand.

The survey also showed that most companies expect further growth in purchase prices and the cost of their own products, and the situation on the labor market remains difficult. Only construction companies predict an increase in the number of workers, while other sectors expect staff reductions.
