20 children from the Kherson region spent ten days in Montenegro, exploring the country’s culture, history, and nature. For the young residents of the region, whose childhood is unfolding amid war, this trip became an opportunity to rest, gain new experiences, and reset psychologically. This was reported by the Kherson Regional State Administration on its official website.
The trip took place at the invitation of the Municipality of Nikšić, supported by the Embassy of Montenegro in Ukraine and facilitated by the Department of Social Development of the Kherson Regional State Administration. Children from Beryslav, Kakhovka, Skadovsk, Kherson, and Henichesk districts took part in it.

Over the course of ten days, the participants explored the historical and cultural landmarks of Nikšić. They visited Freedom Square and Šako Petrović Square, toured the gallery in King Nikola’s Palace, the “Njegoš” library, and the cathedral.
The nature-oriented part of the journey was just as eventful. The children took boat trips on Lake Slano and Lake Krupac, visited Durmitor National Park, spent time in Žabljak, saw Kapetanovo Lake, and hiked Mount Lukavica.

Such an experience is much more than just a tourist trip. For children from a region that faces the consequences of war daily, the chance to find themselves in a safe environment, see new places, socialize, and simply spend time free from constant tension is of vital importance.
The trip to Montenegro served as an example of international solidarity with Ukraine and support for its youngest citizens. It is precisely through such partnership initiatives that children get the opportunity to return, at least for a while, to what childhood should be—filled with travel, discoveries, new friends, and genuine emotions.
