On July 12, Vardavar—one of the oldest, brightest, and most beloved holidays—was celebrated in Armenia and Armenian communities around the world.
Today, Vardavar is the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in the Armenian Apostolic Church, while simultaneously preserving centuries-old folk traditions. The most famous of these is splashing water, which symbolizes purification, renewal, and blessing.
On this day, the whole of Armenia turns into a real water festival: the streets are filled with laughter, music, and fun, and real water battles unfold everywhere. Everyone without exception gets splashed—friends, passersby, children, adults, drivers, and even police officers. Staying dry on this day is almost impossible, and this is exactly what creates the unique atmosphere of Vardavar.
This is a holiday that both children and adults look forward to with equal joy, as it unites people, brings sincere emotions, and reminds us of the value of goodness, unity, and spiritual renewal.
