Amid the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the Restoration of Ukraine’s Independence, the Ukrainian community in Paraguay, together with diplomats, cultural figures, and friends of our state, held a memorable and distinguished event. The occasion became a symbol of unbreakable unity with the Homeland, the preservation of rich Ukrainian heritage, and steadfast faith in a just peace and victory.
The ceremony commenced with the solemn raising of the State Flag of Ukraine to the sounds of the national anthem. All attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the soldiers and civilians who gave their lives defending their motherland, Ukraine, from aggression.
Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Paraguay, Andrés Trociuk, addressed the audience with welcoming remarks. Emphasizing the dramatic nature of the current moment, the Consul underscored that current news is overshadowed by deep sorrow due to the irreparable loss of human lives. He noted that the Ukrainian people continue to courageously defend their independence and sovereignty in the face of the Russian invasion, which has been ongoing for over four years. Andrés Trociuk also expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Paraguay and other friendly nations for their consistent and unwavering support of Ukraine during these difficult times. Andrés Baranski, a representative of the Ukrainian Society “Prosvita,” also joined the addresses, highlighting the importance of the cultural and educational mission in preserving national identity on Paraguayan soil.
Spiritual blessings for the occasion were offered through a joint prayer for Ukraine, conducted by representatives of two denominations: Father Pavlo Lisnichuk representing the Orthodox Church, and Father Jorge Shchainiuk representing the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The joint prayer united the hearts of all present in asking for protection, justice, and peace for the Ukrainian people.
The cultural and organizational part of the event was led by Manuel Tsynkar. The program was distinguished by profound emotional uplift: Nadia Czeraniuk, Rector of the UNAE University, sang along to the renowned song “Oi u luzi chervona kalyna,” which has become a true anthem of Ukrainian resistance and spiritual strength. Among the guests of honor were Professor Teresa Zinkovska, consuls, presidents of public organizations, representatives of the Ukrainian community, as well as caring Paraguayans who consistently support Ukraine in this historic time.
This solemn event once again proved: a distance of thousands of kilometers cannot diminish love for the Homeland. Thanks to the dedication and active position of the Ukrainian community in Paraguay, the blue-and-yellow banner remains a symbol of freedom, and Ukrainian heritage continues to live on and unite people around the ideas of Independence, Justice, and Solidarity.
