A significant international visit by Ukrainian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviychuk took place in Luxembourg at the invitation of LUkraine asbl. The event marked the launch of a new international advocacy project, Advocacy Coalition 2026–2027, aimed at consolidating European efforts to protect human rights, justice, and the future of Ukraine.

A key part of the program was a conference dedicated to one of Russia’s most serious war crimes — the abduction of Ukrainian children. Oleksandra Matviychuk’s keynote speech set the strategic tone for the discussion: the issue of legal responsibility for these crimes was clearly outlined and the need for a strengthened international response was emphasized. Her position became an important signal to European partners about the relevance of the topic of responsibility for war crimes.

During the visit, high-level meetings were held, including with:
— Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg
— Minister of Defense Yuriko Bakes
— President of the Chambre des Députés du Luxembourg Claude Wieseler and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee
— Head of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg Anne Calte
These meetings were an important step in strengthening political support for Ukraine and increasing international attention to the issue of responsibility for Russia’s war crimes.
Special attention during the visit was paid to the “Tribunal for Putin” initiative, the purpose of which is to document international crimes committed by Russia on the territory of Ukraine in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. It was precisely the return of the human dimension of war and the protection of the rights of victims that became the central message of the human rights activist’s speeches.

Another important event was Oleksandra Matviychuk’s participation in visiting the exhibition “Lost Childhood”, which draws attention to the tragedy of deported Ukrainian children and strengthens international advocacy in this direction.
Her activity today is not only human rights work, but also the systematic restoration of justice, dignity and hope for Ukrainian society. The visit to Luxembourg was another step towards consolidating international support for Ukraine and developing joint advocacy initiatives in Europe.
