Stories born during war often go beyond the ordinary human experience. They are about pain and loss, but at the same time – about strength, dignity and love that can endure even in the darkest times. FC Shakhtar reported this on Facebook.

This is exactly the story of combat medic Elina Medinina, who survived the defense of Mariupol, the hell of Azovstal, and Russian captivity.
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Elina headed the medical service of the Donetsk Border Guard Unit. She rescued wounded Ukrainian defenders during the fiercest battles for Mariupol, working in conditions where every decision could become a matter of life and death.
After months of defense, she was captured. Trials that are difficult to talk about out loud. But even after that, Elina did not break down: after returning home, she continued to serve Ukraine and help the military.

These days, her story has received an unexpected and very personal continuation – right on the football field.
Before the start of the match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist 1925, Elina performed a symbolic first kick — a gesture of respect for her courage and service.
And in an instant, something happened that moved both the stands and thousands of viewers online.
Her lover, Myroslav, a Ukrainian soldier with whom they had gone through the defense of Mariupol, Azovstal, and captivity, went out onto the field and proposed to her.
There was more to this moment than just a declaration.
It was a story about people who went through the war together and were able to preserve the most important things — trust, support, and love. About the choice to live on, despite everything they had experienced.

The audience applauded standing ovation. Social networks were instantly filled with words of support and admiration. Because moments like these remind us: even in times of war, life goes on.
And love wins.
