How I became who I never planned to be: Olga Nevodnyk’s story of a journey that began with pain

Does our calling always begin with a grand dream? Sometimes, the most significant changes are born not from a clear plan, but from inner searching, painful questions, and a desire to understand oneself. This was precisely the path of Olga Nevodnyk—a woman who did not plan to be an entrepreneur, the founder of a women’s club, or a winner of international beauty pageants, yet managed to find her true calling.

Specially for the Business Woman International Magazine, as part of the “Power of a Dream” project, Olga shared her personal story—about childhood traumas, inner transformation, war, the power of women’s self-expression, and a journey that completely changed her life.

“To be honest, I didn’t dream of being the woman I am today,” Olga admits.

She says her story did not begin with ambitious goals or a drive for success. The first step was trying to understand her own inner pain, which had gone unnoticed for many years.

One of the topics that led her into self-development was her relationship with her father. As a child, she lacked warmth, and this raised many questions: why she felt unloved, what was wrong with her, and why it was so difficult to build trusting relationships with men.

Through years of therapy, self-observation, and inner work, came the realization: not everything we experience in childhood is an objective reality. Often, it is just our perception, which reveals itself in a completely different light over time.

“What once seemed like the greatest pain later became my point of growth,” she says.

Eventually, life brought new challenges. Crises, difficult decisions, and then the full-scale war forced a deeper rethinking of her own purpose.

That was when Olga began asking herself questions that changed everything: why is she here, what can she leave behind, and what value can she bring to other people.

“A different level of self-expression appeared in my life, a different responsibility to myself,” she shares.

Unexpectedly, it was during this period that her life led her to international beauty pageants. This decision was not a childhood dream or an ultimate goal. Rather, it was a challenge to herself.

“I just wanted to see if I could do it,” Olga recalls.

This challenge resulted in two victories. However, the main reward for her was not the titles or crowns, but the people she met, new opportunities, and the chance to speak to the world about meaningful things.

During a live broadcast of the “Power of a Dream” project, Olga voiced a thought that became her personal philosophy:

Happy people don’t start wars. Happy people build the future.

She is convinced that great changes in the world begin with the inner peace of each individual. That is why today, the focus of her activity is women’s self-expression, self-acceptance, unlocking potential, and inner harmony.

Looking back, Olga knows what she would say to her former self—the one who once doubted and was afraid to take the first step.

“Don’t be afraid. You will be supported. You never know where support will come from, but it will definitely come. Sometimes from the furthest people. Sometimes exactly when it seems there is no foothold left.”

Olga Nevodnyk’s story is a reminder that our lives do not always follow the script we wrote in childhood. Sometimes, it is the unhealed pain, difficult trials, and unexpected turns that become the beginning of a true calling.

Because the power of a dream is not in everything going according to plan.

The power of a dream is in the courage to accept your path and turn your own experience into a light for others.
