A new social initiative is gaining popularity in Ukraine, having already caused a wide public resonance. This is the “Companions of Ukraine” project, founded by Ilona Morgan, the goal of which is to create a safe space for women to find mutual support, cohabitation, and partnership in everyday life. This initiative is reported by the media platform Ukrinky Media on its Instagram page.
The idea is based on the concept of the so-called “Boston marriage”—a form of coexistence of women who unite not for romantic relationships, but for mutual assistance, shared housekeeping, support for children, distribution of the financial burden, and creating a sense of security.
In the conditions of war, such a model can become especially relevant for wives of military personnel, internally displaced persons, single mothers, widows, divorced women, and elderly women.
According to the project author’s idea, the future “Companions of Ukraine” application will help find like-minded people by values, lifestyle, interests, the presence of children or pets, views on everyday life, and personal comfort.
For example, two women from different regions of the country can combine their resources: one has housing, the other has a car or remote work. Together they can create more stable conditions for themselves and their children, supporting each other in a difficult period of life.
It is important that this form of cohabitation does not imply any legal obligations or lifelong agreements. This is a voluntary partnership model that exists as long as it remains comfortable and useful for both parties.
The public reaction to the initiative turned out to be extremely positive. After the publication of the idea on social networks, the vast majority of reviews supported the project. It was the female users who suggested the name “Companions of Ukraine”, which, in their opinion, better reflects the essence of mutual support and solidarity between women.
Today, an eponymous community is already working on Facebook, joined by thousands of Ukrainian women from different parts of the world in a short time. Here, women get to know each other, communicate, exchange experiences, and look for new formats of cooperation.
The initiative demonstrates how modern society is looking for new solutions to old challenges. In times of uncertainty, war, and social changes, trust, mutual support, and the ability to unite for the sake of common well-being acquire special value.
Perhaps it is such projects that form a new culture of female solidarity, where safety, partnership, mutual respect, and support become the main values.
