38,300 DKK for “Children of Heroes”: Ukrainian Culture Day United Ukrainians and Danes in Skive

One day of Ukrainian culture — and 38,300 Danish kroner, or over 264,000 hryvnias, to support children who lost their parents to the war.

On August 29, the Ukrainian Culture Day, organized by Lastivka Malva Skive, took place at Skive Theater in Denmark.

On this day, the theater was filled with Ukrainian music and dance, traditions, art, books, and national cuisine. A Ukrainian fair was open, a charity auction was held, and Ukrainians and Danes came together around a single event.

Yet culture on this day carried another crucially important mission — to help.

Following the event, 38,300 DKK was raised for the “Children of Heroes” charity foundation. At the current exchange rate, this exceeds 264,000 UAH.

The funds are designated to support children who lost a mother or a father due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Currently, the necessary paperwork is being finalized to transfer the charitable funds to the foundation. After the transaction is completed and receipt of the full amount is confirmed, the organizers will publish a separate financial report.

From Concept to a Great Collective Effort

Leading the organization of the Ukrainian Culture Day was Alla Kuchans — head of Lastivka Malva Skive and director of the Business Woman Magazine representative office in Denmark.

Preparations lasted several months: finding partners and charity auction lots, negotiating with organizations, coordinating participants, and handling dozens of other organizational processes that typically remain behind the scenes for guests.

At the same time, an event of this scale is always the result of collective effort.

Artists, volunteers, Ukrainian artisans, partners, representatives of the local community, and dozens of caring individuals contributed to its creation.

Some took to the stage. Some cooked Ukrainian dishes. Some designed the decorations. Some helped with logistics. Some donated gifts and unique items for the charity auction.

Meanwhile, the guests purchased lots, supported the fair, and made donations.

It is from all these contributions, both small and large, that the 38,300 DKK was ultimately raised.

A Charitable Cause of Profound Meaning

Cooperation with the “Children of Heroes” charity foundation began earlier in 2026.

In February, an exhibition of drawings by children under the foundation’s care who lost a mother or father to the war was brought to Denmark. Its official opening was held, and the initiative was dedicated to the anniversary of the full-scale invasion.

At that time, no one could have imagined how deeply personal this cause would become for the head of Lastivka Malva Skive.

In April, Alla’s younger brother, Vitalii, was killed in the war. He was only 25 years old and left behind a young son.

The foundation that Alla had been supporting even before the tragedy in her own family is now caring for her brother’s child.

“When I was helping the ‘Children of Heroes’ foundation in February, I could not have imagined even in my worst nightmare that just a few months later, the foundation would be caring for my brother’s child. That is why it was especially important for me that this day brought not only emotions and an introduction to Ukrainian culture, but also real help to the children.”

Behind the figure of 38,300 DKK stands much more than just a successful fundraising effort.

It represents support for children to whom no one can return a mother or father, but to whom we can show: you are not alone.

Ukraine in the Heart of a Danish Town

The Ukrainian Culture Day became not only a charitable event, but also an important cultural and integration milestone for Skive.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Skive Kommune, who personally addressed the Ukrainian community. For Ukrainians currently living in Denmark, such presence and support from local authorities hold special significance.

The project was realized with the support of Kulturelt Samråd Skive, which backed the initiative to promote Ukrainian culture.

A special highlight of the program was the presentation of official certificates of appreciation from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Denmark to individuals who have supported Ukraine, Ukrainians in Denmark, and Ukrainian civic and charitable initiatives for many years.

After all, it is essential not only to ask for support, but also to recognize and remember those who have stood by Ukraine year after year.

Special gratitude goes to Skive Theater for their hospitality, openness, and support of Ukrainian initiatives.

The organizers also thank Lastivka – Ukrainian Organisation of Denmark for supporting the initiative and providing the opportunity to conduct the official charity fundraiser through the organization.

38,300 DKK Powered by Hundreds of People

Behind the final result are months of work, but above all — people.

The artists who took the stage. The volunteers who worked before, during, and after the event. The Ukrainian artisans. The partners. The people who provided auction lots. Those who cooked, decorated, transported, and assisted.

And, of course, the guests — Ukrainians and Danes.

Someone won a lot at the auction. Someone supported Ukrainian crafters. Someone contributed 20, 50, or 100 kroner.

Ultimately, all these contributions came together to achieve one result:

38,300 Danish kroner — over 264,000 hryvnias — for children who lost their loved ones to the war.

This is the true power of community.

The Ukrainian Culture Day in Skive demonstrated that Ukrainian culture abroad is about much more than preserving traditions.

It is an opportunity to unite people, forge partnerships between Ukraine and Denmark, share our country’s story, and simultaneously transform that unity into tangible help.

Perhaps that is the best way to measure the success of such initiatives today — not merely by the number of people in the audience or the applause following a concert, but by what remains after the stage lights go down.

In this case, what remains is:

38,300 DKK.

Over 264,000 hryvnias.

And real help for children.
