A unique Record of Ukraine was officially registered in Chernivtsi, uniting the traditions of Ukrainian embroidery, the strength of communities, and support for our defenders. In the categories “For the First Time” and “Collections,” a record was set for the largest number of ornamental chevron amulets for the military, created as part of the artistic project “Embroidered Chevron Amulet.” Book World Records writes about this.
The record-breaking collection includes 1,200 chevron amulets, crafted by 850 artisans from 52 territorial communities of the Chernivtsi region. Each chevron became not only a piece of art but also a symbol of gratitude, support, and spiritual strength for Ukrainian warriors.
A special feature of the project was the blend of cultural heritage and contemporary patriotic meaning. The ornaments were based on the historical collection “Patterns of Home Industry Embroidery in Bukovyna” by Erich Kolbenheyer, published at the beginning of the 20th century. It was these authentic Bukovynian ornaments that inspired the craftswomen to create the unique amulets for the defenders of Ukraine.
The project expanded far beyond the region and received international support. The initiative was joined by Ukrainians from various regions of the country, as well as representatives of the diaspora from Romania, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, the USA, Belgium, and Italy. This once again proved that Ukrainian culture is capable of uniting people across the globe around shared values and support for Ukraine.
The official registration of the record and the award ceremony were conducted by Bishop Theognost, representative and brand ambassador of the Book of World Records, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives for preserving cultural heritage and supporting the Ukrainian military.
The official record holders of Ukraine became the co-organizers of the project: Odarka Kucheryava, Head of the Non-Governmental Organization “Vyshyvany Dyvotvir”; Liudmyla Kushnir, Head of the Chernivtsi branch of the NGO “Zakhyst Derzhavy”; and Oleksandr Koshovyi, Head of the NGO “Stal.”
The Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration and the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine were also recognized for supporting the implementation of the project.
Following the conclusion of the record-breaking event, the entire collection of chevron amulets will be preserved by the “Vyshyvany Dyvotvir” non-governmental organization as an important testament to the unity, patriotism, and power of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
This record stands as an example of how traditional art can transform into a symbol of support, faith, and gratitude. After all, every embroidered chevron is not just a pattern, but a message of love and resilience, created by the hands of Ukrainian women for those who protect the country.
